    The New York Football Jets

    Current Record

    11-2 (4-1)

    Recent Media:

Week 14 - Welcome home JOE

Joe McKnight returned to New York to face his old team in week 14. Bob Villa had a special press pass and Tim Tebow was benched in favor of an old geezer. Yay.

    Week 13

    ....

Week 12 - Second half surge

The Jets hosted the visiting Bills this week, the second time facing the Bills this year. The score stayed tight the first 30 minutes, but an offensive and defensive surge in the final 30 minutes ended with the Jets notching their 9th win of the year.

    Quote of the Week:

    Got Speed?

The Jets may not have the most talented WR core in the league, but they definitely boast one of the fastest. With speed burners Donaldson at 98, Hill at 96, Holmes 95, and Gettis 94, the starting 4 WRs average in at 95.75 speed. Burton, the 5th and final WR team, is slow in comparison to his other teammates only registering in at 90. Will this combo lead to an improved passing attack in 2013? Or will their lack of fundamentals bite them in the end? Stay tuned.

Looking back on preseason some of the standouts include LB Jonathan Casillas (4 INTs, 1 FR, 3 TDs), RB Chris Ivory (Still running hard after ACL tear), QB Tim Tebow (60% passing, 3 TDs, 0 INTs), and WR Khiry Donaldson (Lead team in receiving). Some guys who need to show some improvement, RB Chris Rainey (Ran well, but return performance lackluster), QB Kellen Moore (if he wants to be long term backup, needs to improve on INTs), and CB Antonio Cromartie (virtually invisible during preseason).

Here's a quick look back at the final 2 weeks of preseason:

Week 1 in the books, Offense needs retooling:

The season has officially begun and the Jets get their first win of the year. Standouts from the game include the new Jet RB combo of Stewart and Ivory, who combined for over 200 yards rushing and a TD. Newly acquired RB Rainey also scored on a 40 yard run in the 4th that tied the game. The defense held the Giants in check, only allowing 3 points in 4 quarters of play. Meanwhile, the passing game struggled to get going and Tim Tebow threw 2 picks, both returned for touchdowns. In the end though, the Jets rushing attack and stout D was too much for the Giants and the Jets were able to kick a game winning FG as time expired for a 20-17 win to begin the year.

Week 2 - Defense pitches shutout at home

Big news of the week was the signing of free agent QB Matt Cassel. After Tim Tebow threw a couple of pick 6's in week 1, the Jets decided to bring in a veteran to take over the starting job until Tebow can improve his throwing. Cassel finished his debut game going 12-17 for 170 yards 2TDs and 1INT. Chris Rainey showed his explosiveness with a 78 yard 1TD performance on just 6 touches.

Week 3 - Oh shit we lost, wait, we signed Ochocinco? Fuck yeah!

In an effort to draw attention away from a loss to the Dolphins, the Jets have picked up FA superstar WR Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson. Johnson already has 3 reality TV deals in the work, will get new golden shoes every game, and have his gloves auctioned off after every first down.

Oh, btw, we lost, but ignore that, WE GOT CHAD.

Week 4 - Tebow gets the nod

After a loss in week 3, Tebow got the start for week 4. Running a very conservative passing attack he was able to account for 2 TDs and 0 INTs. The team ran for 140 yards, 4 players combined for it while none had a breakout game.

Week 5 - Rain soaked field favors defense

In a rainy week 5 match up between the Jets and Eagles, the Jets D shuts down the Eagles running and forces the Eagles rookie QB to carry the team. Jets force 6 INTs and rush for 200+ yards in route to a 48-10 win.

Week 6 - Jets outlast late rally

The Jets were able to hold off a late push by the Steelers and win their 5th game of the year. Turnovers were the story of this game, the Steelers having 4 while the Jets kept it clean with 0.

Week 7 - New England has a Punter?

New England was able to move the ball and convert 3rd downs at will against the Jets D in their week 7 match up. Although the Jets shut down the Patriot run game for most of the game, the inability to get off the field on 3rd downs proved to be too much as the Patriots were able to march down the field and score TDs throughout the first half. Due to the local blackout, no highlights will be shown.

    Week 8 - Different D, Same Results

The Jets weren't sure what to expect in their first game going from a 3-4 front defense to a 4-3 front defense. Four quarters later, they put together their best defensive game of the year. Muhammad Wilkerson stood out in the win recording 2 sacks, though still unsure on if he truly fits in at the 4-3 DE position. Jets run away with this one 44-0 over the Cowboys.

    First Half Recap

Eight games in the books and the Jets currently sit 6-2 on the season. Standout performers include RB Chris Rainey, WR Khiry Donaldson, and CB Antonio Cromartie. Rainey has made big plays week in and week out in both the running and passing game. Rookie WR Donaldson has had a few explosive plays this year and looks to be developing into legitimate threat. Cromartie has been solid as the #1 CB, recording 6 INTs, multiple pick 6's and locking down teams #1 wide outs.

Some players needing to improve their play are QB Tim Tebow, WR Santonio Holmes, and DE Quinton Coples. Tebow has had a decent year, but still has fumbling issues and lacks accuracy on his deep throws. Holmes seems to disappear during games and has contributed only a handful of catches on the year. Coples, who started off strong this year, seems to have struggled as of late. Hopefully the move to a 4-3 defense and starting opportunities will give him a spark.

The Jets are set to face the Broncos in Week 9, then are off on a bye to get set for the final 7 game stretch of the season. Here is a video of some of the highlights of the first half of the season:

Week 9 - Rainey, Rainey, Rainey

In the Jets week 9 match up against the Broncos, Chris Rainey accounts for 3 TDs in the win. On the ground, through the air, and on special teams, Rainey continued to make game changing impacts. The Defensive Unit also took charge following a short rain delay near the end of the 3rd. A 7 point game at the time, the defense began to pressure Manning and come up with multiple picks which quickly turned the game into a blow out.
