Madden 12 Impressions

Post by splff3000 on Fri Aug 26, 2011 10:45 am

Some reviews and impressions are starting to pop up for Madden.

IGN Review

Pasta Padre Impressions

And these are a few quotes from the impression thread on OS:

Ok I have tried twice in Franchise Mode to upload NCAA Rosters and both times when I go to scouting my player from NCAA are not there. No Andrew Luck to scout.

Maybe I am doing something wrong but it asks if I want to import draft roster and then doesn't show any of the players from my roster upload. I will sim season and see if they show up in draft.

Edit: For starters it took me 10 mins to sim the whole season. Here are results.

Steelers beat Seahawks in Super Bowl

MVP: Drew Brees
OROY: Christian Ponder
DROY: Prince Amukamara

I will say a lot of off season options.

Did see Packers fired Capers in off season.

I dimmed most of off season to get to scouting combine and draft. I couldn't do anything in scouting combine because I guess while simming I didn't scout any players.

I got to pro days and once again couldn't do anything probably because I didn't scout any players during season. Just says no scouts when I try to perform task.

Also said no data available during individual workouts. Once again probably due to simming and not scouting during season.

And FINALLY got to draft. And no players from my imported class are in the draft. I have no answer as to why.

Something that really stands out for me in the 3 games that I have played is the lack of suction when making a tackle. You really have to make the tackle as well as the cpu.

Online if you run into someone who is really sick on Stick control. Watchout

Currently playing the Cboys vs the Jets and the jets D just swarms as expected. Some of the WR/DB battles are a thing of beauty when looking at a replay

Not sure if this was in Madden 11 but the WR running bad routes/ at least that what it seems like the QB/WR are not on the same page. Had a play were Romo had his ft set and Bryant ran a post and the pass just went way off the mark and was picked as if Bryant ran the wrong route. Romo wasnt pressured at all.

Just had a play where Pace from the Jets was applying pressure coming up the middle and Romo clearly got the pass off in time and Pace clipped him as he tried to avoid hitting him and was called for roughing the passer. Little things like this EA has seemed to work on to bring more realism to the game.

I try not to nitpick games and look for bugs unless it is just plain obvious but as of right now and let me say this I LOVE NCAA TO DEATH even with what I call minor issues for what I consider enjoyment. MADDEN blows it out the water.

LET THE FLAMING BEGIN. Can't wait for all to get this tomorrow,

Am in the middle of a new game.....Ravens (CPU) at Jets (Myself) and noticed something cool......

It was a 3rd and about 8-9 to go for myself around midfield (its a night game with light rain) and I dropped back and had Holmes on a Deep In from the slot, going over the middle. He looked to be the best option to get the first down....as he turned to cut in he slipped slightly but didnt affect the play as I was waiting for him to clear the CB and LBer that were in deep zone. I threw the ball just as he was about to clear the LBer to have the pass hit him right in the open part of the zone. It took me just an extra split second to throw as I had to avoid pressure and step up, I threw it and it looked like Holmes would catch it right before the other LBer would get to him. Then as the ball is arriving towards Holmes, Ed Reed from the FS position (who was playing a deep zone on the left side as it seems they were playing a cover 4) reacts to the ball in the air and jumps the route just right before Holmes was going to catch it and then runs it back for 6!!!

The way Ed Reed reacted was very realistic.....he saw where the ball was going and immidieatly made a break for it. Ed wasnt even the closest defender when I released the pass as there was a LBer about 5 yards to the left of Holmes and the ball would of got their before the LBer could of made a play on it, but Ed jumped both of us and took it the other way. This pass was sooooo close to being completed, I didnt seem Reed come into my vision until the last possible second, right when Holmes was ready to make the reception. (FOR THE RECORD....the Gameplay in on 'ALL PRO')

So looks like Zones are greatly improved so far this year, and it also matters who is covering that zone. If you have a LBer or Safety with low awareness and play reaction as well as low zone coverage, there would be NO WAY he could of made that play that Ed Reed did to me. Even an Average starting to Good Safety doesnt make that play......that was an ELITIE play made by an ELITE player that only very few and have the ability and awareness to make.

So as you probably guessed by now I will have to be more careful when throwing to Reed's side of the field LOL.

Played a game with the Chargers against the Cowboys. All-Pro difficulty with slow game speed, 8 minute quarters. Felt pretty good, I thought it ran smoother than the demo. Vincent Jackson was a beast on offense and TKO ran wild on defense. Kicking felt easier than in the demo, don't know if it's because I got used to it.

I like how safeties actually come up closer to the LOS when they're gonna blitz, instead of staying at their normal positions and making the blitz ineffective.

Got the game this morning and I've been tweaking with custom play books mostly. Ran a couple of games against the CPU, can't give definite impressions but so far it feels smoother and slower than the demo (normal setting). Got to play more games to get a better feel for it.

I found a couple of flaws in custom play books that are real annoying and I hope they patch real soon. 1st is the organization of plays. I have to scroll across 5 different shotgun sets, I form, Weak I, you name it... They're not in sequential order like the stock play books we're accustomed too. You really have to 'know your plays' if you're going to run customs. Another thing, it seems like when use CPB's in practice mode half your plays are missing. Was it like this NCAA?? I hope they fix this with a patch cause I plan on strictly using customs.

Finally, any early owners have problem getting online? I'm on PS3 and when I tried to Redeem my online access code I get this error message, "We're sorry but your are not permitted to register and online pass which is required to access all online features." Hope it's because the servers are not available yet for PS3 owners.

First thing I did was go into franchise. As expected they totally rebuilt this mode. Its ****.

As already stated, there is a HUGE glitch in NCAA Draft.

Basically you cannot (as of now) import your players from NCAA.

Figured before I pass out for the night I would load up the PS3 one more time and make an in depth post on PLAYER TRAITS (i.e. what traits are available, what are the options to choose from, etc.)

Below are each Trait option that each player has, the example below I will use Darrelle Revis as the player and will highlight which one is his trait then put the other options in (______):

Tuck and Run: Rarely (other options are: Sometimes, Often)
Throw Ball Away: No (yes)
Sense Pressure: Trigger Happy (Ideal, Average, Oblivious, Paranoid)
Forces Passes: Aggressive (Conservative, Ideal)
Throws Tight Spiral: No (Yes)
Fights For Extra Yards: No (Yes)
Covers The Ball: Never (Braces against Big Hitters, Brace against Medium Hitters, Braces for all Hits, Always)
Makes Sideline Catches: No (Yes)
Drop Open Passes: No (Yes)
Plays Ball In The Air: Aggressive (Conservative, Balanced)
Big Hitter: No (Yes)
Utilizes Swim Move: No (Yes)
Utilizes Spin Move: No (Yes)
Utilizes Bull Rush Move: No (Yes)
Clutch: Yes (No)
Consistency: 5 (Scale from 1-5 with 5 being the highest, one being the lowest)
Confidence: 3 (Scale from 1-5 - see above)
High Motor: Yes (No)

Note that these are able to edit if you wish under EDIT PLAYER. The example I used was for Revis as already stated, no roster update.

More Impressions from the Q and A thread. These are just the answers to questions:

-When asked about difference between retail and demo
One of this biggest differences I saw in my short time was it seems smoother on PS3 than the demo. Demo seemed choppy to me. I'll post more in a little.

-When asked is NFL Films Music in the game:
No there is no NFL Films music.

-General Post:
Anyone with PS3 version having commentary issues. I haven't heard commentary yet.

EDIT: ok tried it on different TV and commentary works. Must be something with running it through HDMI cable on my big screen ugh.

-When asked about rainy weather games:
A+ in the area of dirty unis and weather games. Im currently playing one and its a mess. Field Deg is not as good as far as I can tell

Players sliding all over the place. Some of my throws have been way off the mark

-When asked about commentary
I would say im liking it better than say 10. I probably only played 10-15 games of 11. Loving the comments during some of the presentation. Very nice EA. Im sure some will bash it as being stale

-How was progression after the 1st season
After 1 season, Brady declined overall by 1
Peyton stayed the same

Notable overalls who saw a -1 decline
Brady, Harrison, Kevin Williams, Mangold, Asomugha (-2), Andre Johnson (-2)
Chris Snee, Polamalu (-5)

Eric Berry +9

I know this is dumb of me to admit, because the season pass is a ripoff, but I definitely had the slight urge to pull the trigger on it.

If most of the people on here did it I would have done it but it would be a waste to play the game early by myself.
